Nicolas Francoeur, assistant art director on Hell is Us, explains the process behind the creation of the movement of the creatures that the player must combat in Hell is Us.
To create the unnerving and unpredictable movement and attack patterns of the Lymbic Entities in Hell is Us, developer Rogue Factor turned to contemporary dance. Professional dancer and choreographer Marie Lambin-Gagnon brainstormed with the team to design how each type of creature moves. Inspired by various influences, including Butoh dance, Marie’s movement were captured and filmed in their studio. Then, the animators tweaked the movements to make them game ready.
