We are Rogue Factor, a mid-sized video game development studio based in Montreal. Our team has just launched Hell is Us, an ambitious and innovative IP developed using Unreal Engine 5, with the support of our parent company, Nacon.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a Technical Animator whose role will be to act as a bridge between animation and programming. Their mission is to optimize animation pipelines, ensure the smooth integration of movements into the game engine, and develop innovative technical solutions that support the creative vision while respecting performance and production constraints. Thanks to their hybrid expertise, they help create fluid, coherent, and expressive animations that enhance the gameplay experience.

RESPONSABILITIES

• Collaborate with the animation, design, gameplay, and programming teams to support their technical needs. 

• Develop, document, and maintain tools, scripts, and rigs to improve the animation pipeline. 

• Optimize animation systems (rigging, retargeting, blending, state machines) to ensure performance and stability across platforms. 

• Ensure compatibility of animated assets (rigs, cycles, cinematics) with the game engine and production constraints. 

• Identify, analyze, and quickly resolve technical issues encountered by animators and other departments. 

• Train and support animators in using tools, processes, and best practices. 

• Participate in the implementation and evolution of animation workflows, continuously improving productivity and quality. 

• Contribute to strategic technical decisions regarding pipeline, tools, and animation integration into the engine.

REQUIREMENTS

• Degree in 3D animation, computer graphics, video game design, graphic computing, or equivalent experience. 

• Strong understanding of animation principles and their technical constraints in real-time environments. 

• Demonstrated relevant experience of at least 4 to 5 years and/or ideally having contributed to the release of a game. 

• Knowledge of scripting or programming (Python, C#, MEL, Blueprint, etc.). 

• Experience with 3D creation and animation software (Maya, Blender, MotionBuilder or equivalent). 

• Good understanding of performance constraints related to animation (rig optimization, cycles, memory). 

• Collaborative and solution-oriented attitude, with a creative and analytical mindset. 

• Proficiency in French, both spoken and written.

BOnus points

• Experience with Unreal Engine and its animation system (AnimBlueprints, Control Rig, Sequencer). 

• Experience in tool development or managing animation pipelines in a video game production environment. 

• Experience leading technical roadmaps using tools like Jira. • Familiarity with Git, Perforce, or other version control systems. 

• Knowledge of mocap (motion capture) and real-time integration. 

• Experience with major consoles (PlayStation / Xbox), including handling platform-specific technical constraints.
